Band Boosters Update 11-16-16
Hello Band Families,
Marching Band News
The marching band will have one final rehearsal and performance for the Lexington Snowball Parade. The rehearsal will be either Tuesday, Nov. 29 or Thursday, Dec. 1 from 3:45 – 4:15. A decision on which day will be made on Monday, Nov. 28 based on the weather forecast for both days (dry and warmer is preferable!).
The Snowball Parade will be on Sunday, December 4 at 3:30 pm. Call time for students is 2:45 at Harbor Inn Seafood. Dress for the parade is full uniform.
The LHS Bands Winter Concert will be held on Monday, December 5 at 7:00 pm in LOPAC. The concert will feature both the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble. The program will include traditional band literature as well as seasonal music. Please invite family and friends to join us for this free concert. Dress for students is black concert attire with black shoes (no sandals, please).
On Thursday, December 8, all LHS band members will audition immediately after school. The audition scores will make up a significant portion of the student’s grade for the 2nd nine weeks, and will determine chair placement for the spring semester. Audition requirements include the etude, sightreading, major scales, senior level terms, chromatic scale and tone quality.
In the event that LHS has a football playoff game at White Knoll HS on Friday, November 25, the band will be expected to perform. Students who are travelling more than 90 minutes away from Lexington for the holiday will be excused; everyone else is expected to attend. More information will be available after this Friday’s games are completed.
Palmetto Concert Band
The Palmetto Concert Band will perform a free concert on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 pm in the Koger Center for the Arts in downtown Columbia. The PCB is an adult professional ensemble and includes many of the LHS band staff members and directors. This concert is the “home” concert for a performance that will be given in Chicago for the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in December.
Winter Guard News
This past week, approximately 40 students auditioned for our winter guard program. Thirty-four students were selected for the 2016-17 LHS winter guards. These students are off to a great start and will no doubt have a wonderful season. Congratulations to all of our guard members. The rehearsal schedule for the winter guards will be sent directly to guard families by Mrs. Gable.
